Inspect tokenizer metadata

Token IDs depend on the tokenizer paired with the model. A tokenizer mismatch can change segmentation and special tokens even when the input text is identical.

Understand the pattern

Token IDs depend on the tokenizer paired with the model. A tokenizer mismatch can change segmentation and special tokens even when the input text is identical.

Interpret the evidence

Load tok-v2 to match the weights before comparing outputs.

A tempting mistake

Ignore tokenizer revisions because text is stored as characters.

All names, measurements, prices, versions, and thresholds in this exercise are fictional training data. The evidence supports this bounded scenario, not a claim about a live provider.

Worked example and expected result
$ cat /opt/ai-lab/cases/aiops-models-runtimes-008.json
{
  "fixture": "Fictional training data; not a live measurement.",
  "weights_tokenizer": "tok-v2",
  "configured_tokenizer": "tok-v1",
  "match": false
}

Exit status: 0. The command completed successfully in the training fixture.

$ jq .match /opt/ai-lab/cases/aiops-models-runtimes-008.json
false

Exit status: 0. The command completed successfully in the training fixture.

$ printf '%s\n' 'align-tokenizer' > /home/learner/lab/aiops-models-runtimes-008-decision.txt
(no output; exit 0)

Exit status: 0. The command completed successfully in the training fixture.

Try a variation

Name the assumption that would have to change for “align-tokenizer” to stop being the justified action. Do not silently replace missing evidence with a guess.

Explain it

What does the evidence in “Inspect tokenizer metadata” justify?

Apply it elsewhere

A colleague concludes: “Ignore tokenizer revisions because text is stored as characters.” What should you do?

Keep the momentum.

Complete the lab, then explain and apply the pattern.
