Understand the pattern

Queue depth is meaningful with arrival and completion rates. A growing queue can signal overload even while workers remain healthy.

Interpret the evidence

Address the arrival/completion imbalance before the queue grows further.

A tempting mistake

Healthy workers mean an ever-growing queue is harmless.

All names, measurements, prices, versions, and thresholds in this exercise are fictional training data. The evidence supports this bounded scenario, not a claim about a live provider.

Worked example and expected result
$ cat /opt/ai-lab/cases/aiops-cost-reliability-007.json
{
  "fixture": "Fictional training data; not a live measurement.",
  "arrival_rps": 30,
  "completion_rps": 20,
  "queue_growing": true
}

Exit status: 0. The command completed successfully in the training fixture.

$ jq .queue_growing /opt/ai-lab/cases/aiops-cost-reliability-007.json
true

Exit status: 0. The command completed successfully in the training fixture.

$ printf '%s\n' 'address-rate-imbalance' > /home/learner/lab/aiops-cost-reliability-007-decision.txt
(no output; exit 0)

Exit status: 0. The command completed successfully in the training fixture.

Try a variation

Name the assumption that would have to change for “address-rate-imbalance” to stop being the justified action. Do not silently replace missing evidence with a guess.

Explain it

What does the evidence in “Inspect queue depth” justify?

Apply it elsewhere

A colleague concludes: “Healthy workers mean an ever-growing queue is harmless.” What should you do?

Keep the momentum.

Complete the lab, then explain and apply the pattern.
