Understand the pattern

API incident review distinguishes validation, readiness, transport and overload failures. Classify the observed boundary before choosing correction, waiting or a bounded retry.

Interpret the evidence

Repair the messages envelope; readiness is not the failing boundary.

A tempting mistake

Restart the healthy model to fix a client schema error.

All names, measurements, prices, versions, and thresholds in this exercise are fictional training data. The evidence supports this bounded scenario, not a claim about a live provider.

Worked example and expected result
$ cat /opt/ai-lab/cases/aiops-inference-apis-016.json
{
  "fixture": "Fictional training data; not a live measurement.",
  "status": 400,
  "model_ready": true,
  "error": "messages must be an array"
}

Exit status: 0. The command completed successfully in the training fixture.

$ jq .error /opt/ai-lab/cases/aiops-inference-apis-016.json
"messages must be an array"

Exit status: 0. The command completed successfully in the training fixture.

$ printf '%s\n' 'repair-envelope-first' > /home/learner/lab/aiops-inference-apis-016-decision.txt
(no output; exit 0)

Exit status: 0. The command completed successfully in the training fixture.

Try a variation

Name the assumption that would have to change for “repair-envelope-first” to stop being the justified action. Do not silently replace missing evidence with a guess.

Explain it

What does the evidence in “Inference API checkpoint” justify?

Apply it elsewhere

A colleague concludes: “Restart the healthy model to fix a client schema error.” What should you do?

Keep the momentum.

Complete the lab, then explain and apply the pattern.
