Understand the pattern

A regression report identifies which cases worsened under a controlled comparison. Include the baseline and candidate versions and representative failures, not just a red badge.

Interpret the evidence

Include case-044 and case-057 even though eight other cases improved.

A tempting mistake

An improvement elsewhere cancels the need to report regressions.

All names, measurements, prices, versions, and thresholds in this exercise are fictional training data. The evidence supports this bounded scenario, not a claim about a live provider.

Worked example and expected result
$ cat /opt/ai-lab/cases/aiops-evals-datasets-015.json
{
  "fixture": "Fictional training data; not a live measurement.",
  "baseline": "eval-22",
  "candidate": "eval-23",
  "regressed_cases": [
    "case-044",
    "case-057"
  ],
  "improved_cases": 8
}

Exit status: 0. The command completed successfully in the training fixture.

$ jq .regressed_cases /opt/ai-lab/cases/aiops-evals-datasets-015.json
[
  "case-044",
  "case-057"
]

Exit status: 0. The command completed successfully in the training fixture.

$ printf '%s\n' 'report-regressed-cases' > /home/learner/lab/aiops-evals-datasets-015-decision.txt
(no output; exit 0)

Exit status: 0. The command completed successfully in the training fixture.

Try a variation

Name the assumption that would have to change for “report-regressed-cases” to stop being the justified action. Do not silently replace missing evidence with a guess.

Explain it

What does the evidence in “Build a regression report” justify?

Apply it elsewhere

A colleague concludes: “An improvement elsewhere cancels the need to report regressions.” What should you do?

Keep the momentum.

Complete the lab, then explain and apply the pattern.

  1. 01Review dataset provenanceDataset provenance records origin, permission, transformations and version. Without it, a technically valid file may still be inappropriate or impossible to reproduce.Practice
  2. 02Make a release recommendationA release recommendation is a decision against recorded gates. Separate evidence that passed, evidence that failed and any untested conditions.Practice
  3. 03Archive evaluation evidenceArchived evaluation evidence must preserve the reproducible inputs and results. Sensitive raw examples may need controlled storage rather than inclusion in a public report.Practice
